Finnegan (Brittany, Orange and White) + Willow (Long Haired Weimaraner, Mouse Grey) are my life, so much so that I decided to rebrand myself when Willow was added in April 2012.
I previously went only by my first name, Kostandinos (KO-stahn-DEE-nos), but over the years I've seen how hard it is for people to remember, spell, pronounce and even attempt. While it is my given name and unique, it just didn't seem easy enough for most people to make a connection with. I started to use Finnegan + Company (Finnegan and Company) in 2011, but then Willow changed everything!
So I took FINN, the first four letters from Finnegan, + LLOW, the last four letters from Willow, and created Finnllow, or FINN+LLOW! If they help you remember me, then they're helping to bring attention to my art and design and my love for them, dogs, and all animals. I think they're the best and most beautiful dogs in the world, but I might be biased. ;)
Since I've always been one for combining words and making up my own words, getting Willow was a golden opportunity for a name change. Speaking of golden, her name was originally Goldie when she first came home at 10-months old, but it just didn't seem to fit her personality. I really wanted to change her name to Casey so I could have my very own Casey and Finnegan from Mr. Dressup. Oddly enough, Willow actually looks like Finnegan, the puppet dog from the show! Being a Long Haired Weimaraner and so svelte, she really had the appearance of a Willow Tree, especially with her long tail. She pretty much named herself; the name just fit! Little known fact: Willow became a UKC Champion at 9-months old! This was 1-month before her adoption, which also turned out to be her new life of retirement!
Willow's dad is a Long Hair Weimaraner from Portugal named Lenny. He's stunning! He's from Drehbar Weims & GSPs in Evart, Michigan and you can learn more about him HERE.
Willow's mom, Beatrix, is a Short Haired Weimaraner (standard), but also carries the Long Haired gene. She's beautiful! She's from Blue Collar Weims in Fraser, Michigan and you can learn more about her HERE. Willow definitely carries the good looks of both her parents and you can really see aspects of them both in Willow's face.
I'd wanted a Brittany for at least the 10-years prior to getting Finnegan, and I had his name picked out for even longer since I was a kid. Ever since I was little, I always wanted a dog named Finnegan, also because of Mr. Dressup. It was a few days before Christmas when I found out about some Brittany puppies that luckily were only a few miles away, so I set up an appointment to see the puppies on Christmas Eve. Finnegan, who was named "Figgy" at the time, was the third puppy I picked up, but he was the one. He didn't try to claw my face and he just felt right... like holding 2 or 3 little sweet potatoes. I think he may have thrown me some side-eye shade action, too.
Going back 2-weeks later to pick him up, the breeder brought out a puppy and gave him to me saying "Here's Finnegan!" As we were finishing up the transaction, the little girl came out from a room and said "Here's Finnegan!" None of the puppies had colored collars or any indicators other than their natural markings, so I wasn't too sure what was happening. I looked at the two puppies and tried comparing to the one picture I took on my iPhone at the first visit. I picked the one that looked closest to the picture and ended up going with the puppy the little girl brought; she seemed to be really in-tune with the puppies and I'm pretty sure I picked the right dog. Finnegan, or who I think is Finnegan, vomited about 15-times on the short drive home! Luckily, he finally fell asleep and was fine when he woke up... I was a nervous wreck the whole time (imagine that!). The running joke is that we're not 100% sure if Finnegan is actually Finnegan, especially when he does something weird or eats his poop.
Finnegan is not an AKC or UKC certified Brittany, as only one of his parents had pedigree papers. It didn't matter to me because I had no intention to show or breed him, but I do realize the importance of lineage and healthy genes. Willow has AMAZING bloodlines, but luckily, both are very healthy with only some minor intestinal issues every once in a while. It's fun to follow Willow's Family Tree, so I only wish I could do the same for Finnegan. Since I don't know exactly where he came from, and not to play favorites, I've made up many stories over the years about their true identities... maybe it'll be a book someday.
